Out of the Mouths of Babes

October 26, 2005

A rural school district in Central Missouri had the opportunity to make a trip to Branson in mid October, 2005. The middle school choir performed at Silver Dollar City and went to see Darren Romeo: The Voice of Magic. The following reviews are from some of the kids and adult sponsors who went on the trip.

Michael B.-
I really thought the magic show was cool. This was my first time to come to Branson and I really liked Darren Romeo. He did some really neat tricks. In one he even ran a sharp spear through his belly and then he just hung out there and even twisted in a circle. Man I thought that was so cool.

I was not very excited that we were going to Branson on our trip. The other classes got to go to Six Flags and I thought that would be more fun, but I guess I was wrong. I did have a good time in Branson at Silver Dollar City. The rides were pretty fun, I just wish more of the water rides were open.

We also got to go see a magic show. He was really cute and he could also sing real good. I have not really ever been to a real magic show before and I thought that Mr. Romeo did a really good job. Some of his tricks were very neat. I have no idea how he did most of them, but I think I might have figured out one of them. I think the one where his body got smashed. I do not think that was his real body in there. I don’t know how it could have been.

I told my mom that we should go back and see him again. I know that she and my step-dad would really like his show.

All in all I had a pretty good time on the trip.

My grandma took me to see Darren Romeo last summer so I was excited about going to see him again. When grandma took me he signed a poster for me with his wife. It is hanging up in my room right now. Darren Romeo is my favorite magician.

I had a really fun time at Silver Dollar and Darren Romeo. My Favorites were the Powder Keg, Wildfire and Darren Romeo Show. I rode the Powder Keg so many times I thought I would be sick. One time they even let me and Janci have two rides in a row because there was not more people in line for our seats.

Then we say the Darren Romeo show. I wonder if he got his name from Romeo and Juliet? He was really good. I thought he was just as singer, but he can also do magic. My favorite was the mermaid trick. They took our bus driver up on stage for that trick. I bet he knows how Darren did the trick, but he will not tell us. Anyway he was real good.

I also got real embarrassed. I bought a soda and spilled it all over the place when I go back to my seat. The lady at the theatre helped me clean it up. She even got me a new soda for free and I did not even have to pay for it.

Latonyia G.-
I do not like magic. My granda says that it is from the devil, so I did not like the magic part of the show. But I did think some of it was kinda neat. I did think that Darren Romeo was a really good singer. I really liked when he sang that song from The Phantom of the Opera. I saw that play in St. Louis one day. I think I might like to be in that play some day. I liked to sing and I liked Darren Romeo.

At Silver Dollar City I got to sing with my choir. People said we did a good job. I don’t know if we did good as Darren, but we did our best. We also got to ride some rides there. I really do not like roller coaster because I do not like to go upside down.

I got to go with my daughter’s choir to Branson last week. They performed a concert at Silver Dollar City. After the concert they got to hang out and have fun in the park. This was my first time to be at this park and I really enjoyed it. It was very big and there was a ton of things to do. They had many shows that you can go to and also lots of rides.

Most of the kids wanted to ride the rides. There were several roller coasters, a train and even water rides. It was cool the day we were there and some of the water rides were not open, but there was still plenty others to keep us busy.

I would like to have had more time to see some of the shows there. I only had time to see the Salon show. It was so much fun. The kids all had root beer floats and we laughed through the whole show.

I will have to come back to Silver Dollar City and bring my wife and whole family. I know that they would love it. Especially my kids. My daughter has not stopped talking about it since we got home.

We also get to see Darren Romeo The Voice of Magic. I was not sure I would like it. A singing magician seemed like a hokey concept. Would he be good at either?

As it turned out he was very good at both. I have been to a lot of magic shows in my life and I have to say that I would put this one up there with David Copperfield. He was amazing. The tricks seemed effortless and his narration and use of music just added to the show. His magic show could have easily stood on its own, but his amazing voice just made the experience unforgettable.

I watched the expressions on the faces of the kids in the group. They were glued. Two of them even asked me at the intermission if the show was over, they were not ready to leave.

Darren Romeo’s Magic Show and Concert is truly a unique experience. I have not been to Branson before, but if Darren Romeo and Silver Dollar City are typical of Branson, then I can see why it is such a popular vacation spot.

My family is military and we move a lot. I already saw Darren Romeo somewhere else. I told my friends that he was real cool. He does lots of awesome tricks with his girlfriend. Since I saw him before I knew what some of his tricks was going to be. I wanted to see how he did some of them.

I though he had to use ropes and stuff to get the tricks he does, but I looked real close and did not see any ropes. I guess it must be real magic or something.

I think that Mr. Darren Romeo must but be one the best magicians in the world. I might get to see him when we move again, then I might figure out some of his tricks.

I think kids would love Darren Romeo. I know I did. I have seen almost every magic show in Branson because my Grandparents live there and we go there all the time. I have seen Darren Romeo, Kirby, Brett Daniels, Hanmer & Barber, Justin Floam, Peter the Adequate and some that are not even in Branson any more. I think that Darren Romeo is my favorite out of all of them. He is real nice and even signs his poster for you when the show is over. I would go back to see his show many more times.

I also had fun singing at Silver Dollar City. We have season passes so I know my way around pretty good. This was my first time to sing there though. I got to take my friends on all my favorite rides. I think the best ride is still the Wildfire. It is even better than Powder keg.

I went to see Daren Romeo with my choir group last week. I thought the show was good. I think that Darren Romeo is an okay singer. My mom said he has a squeaky voice, but I thought is was pretty good.

He does do a lot of magic and he is very good at the magic. I really liked it when he makes people like his assistant disappear and reappear. I think that is very neat. He also does a trick where he makes a light come on with no electricity and then it starts to fly all over the place. I tried to see if he was using some rope of something, but I could not see one. My friend said she thought it was like a remote controlled airplane. I am still not sure.

I bought a picture of him in the gift shop. All my friends thought he was hot and want me to hang the picture in my locker so they can see it.

Tevin L.-
I had a blast at our choir trip to Branson. I wish I did not have a cast on my leg because it would have been better at Silver Dollar City. I could not ride very many of the rides. It was okay though.

I also like the Darren Romeo magic performance. All the girls are still talking about him and saying how hot he was. I am about tired of hearing about that, but I did like the show. Some of the tricks were really cool especially the one where the girl crawled through his body and the one where he had the sharp pole go right through his body. I would say all in all it was a great trip.

I am happy to write a few comments about the trip to Silver Dollar City and Darren Romeo, The Voice of Magic I made with my son’s choir.

We arrived early at Silver Dollar City last week because my son’s choir was scheduled to perform soon after the park opened. They did a great job and the kids and adults had lots of time to play in the park. We had a great time. I had not been for several years and forgot how much fun Silver Dollar City is. I enjoy the rides as much as the kids and the changing fall colors made the place glow.

It is so nice to find a place were you feel comfortable bringing a group of teens and allowing them to wonder around in pairs without fears of them getting hurt or in much trouble. The kids hung out in small groups as the adults wondered around to keep and eye on things. The kids had so much fun they did not have time to think about getting in trouble.

We also went to see Darren Romeo – The Voice of Magic. I have to admit that I am not that interested in magic. Never really have. But I must admit that he was good. I especially enjoyed the music. Everything was very upbeat and performed well. I thought that Darren Romeo was an outstanding performer.

Shane B.-
I had fun at Silver Dollar City with my friends. I also thought that the magic show we saw was awesome. I thought I would be sleepy during the show, but it was so good I could not sleep.

I have been a fan of Darren Romeo since I had the chance to see his show in Vegas several years ago. I had no idea he was in Branson. I have not been there in a long time. When I found out the my daughters choir group was going to be seeing him I told my wife that we had to go on this trip. I am so glade we decided to go because we had a great time.

He was as good as I remembered. So kind to the audience and welcoming. I truly felt both times that he appreciated his audience. All entertainers should take a hint from him. The audience pays your bill. Lean to appreciate your fans. Darren does!

He did many of the same tricks I remember seeing him do in his Vegas show, but there were a few things that were different. He performs and sings at the same time and it is almost like it is second nature. So smooth and so perfect.

I also really like the theatre where he performed. It is very big and very comfortable. We had great seats even though we were a little ways back. I was impressed with the number of people in the audience.

The kids with us we also very excited. They seemed to all love the show. I did not hear one single complaint.

This is a show that people of all ages will enjoy. With the magic, music and dancing no one will leave the theatre disappointed.

Domonic H.-
We went to Silver City with my singing group. It was so much fun I did not want to leave. I threw up on the Thunderation. But I still rode it again. I also rode the Wildfire and Powder Keg plus some other rides. They were so much fun. I got to also eat a lot of junk food that I never get to eat at home. I really had fun at Silver City.

Next we went to Darren Romeo Magic Show to see him do his magic. He was real good and he could also sing well. In one trick he shot a girl out of a cannon and she landed in a huge bowl and she had or bus drivers driver’s license. It was neat. I really liked the magic show. I think I might like to do magic like Darren Romeo.

I did not think I would like Branson, but now I think it is off the hook. I had such a good time at Silver Dollar City that I am begging my dad to take me back. He said he would, so I hope we get to go back soon. They have the most wild rides there and also places to shop. I bought this pimp hat with pink hair on it. They had so much food that my friend Dom threw up on a roller coaster. But it was after the ride was over, so it was okay.

On the way home they took us to see a magic show. I never saw a magic show before and so I thought it was tight. He could do magic with his girlfriend and sing at the same time. I wish he would do some rap music like 50cent or something, but I still thought it was cool. He could even make stuff fly. I thought he was off the hook.

On the ride home some of my friends said they knew how he did all the tricks, but I think they are full of it. I was setting right there and I could not see nothing.

Simone D.-
I had a great time on the choir trip. We got sing at Silver Dollar City and then go to see Darren Romeo.

I do not like rides so Silver Dollar City was just okay. I did have fun walking around with my friends, but they mostly wanted to ride rides. The most fun I have there was going to see the salon show at the salon. I had an ice cream float and watched the funny show. It seemed a little short, but it was still good.

They announced our school at Darren Romeo’s Show and we all got to stand up. That was a lot of fun. There were a lot of people there. I thought he did a great show. I liked it when he came off the stage and did things with the audience. If I get to go to another show I would like to see Darren Romeo again

We would like to thank all the kids who reviewed the Darren Romeo show for the Branson Critic Awards.  For privacy of the minors, we will not reveal the school, so please don't email us with that question.

Two Thumbs up to the Parents, Teachers, and Goodhearted children!!!
