Frequently Asked Questions

'This review needs to be removed!' A question about fair content in reviews.

- It's lengthy, so click here for the Q-and-A.

I have been enjoying Branson with since I was a kid. And I gotta say I have never seen a funnier show than Entranced with Master Hypnotist Danny Doyle. How come his show doesn't appear on your website? I understand that it is a new show; but don't you update your information? - Margaret

- This is a good question.  While it is amazing the information you can find on the Internet, it is equally amazing what you can't find.  When this website was in pre-natal production, we spent several, bleary-eyed hours on the computer, snagging brochures from Tanger and Shoney's and going to shows trying to make this an exhaustive website.  At the initial launch of this site in March of 2004, we felt we achieved that.  We do, actually, update this site everyday (what with comments, reviews, press releases and pictures being sent in) but pretty much rely on "stumbling" on to information so that we know when to *86* a show or add a new one.  We especially rely on people, such as yourself Margaret, to let us know if there is a new show in town so that we can research it and create a page for it for those who are interested in reviewing it. By the way, check out www.bransonquest.com, our entertainment blog, where we posted information on that show August 15th, 2005.

What keeps people that are in these shows from writing their own reviews to Branson Critic?

Could there be that many people who saw Tony Roi?

-There is nothing to stop the shows from writing their own reviews.  In the case of Tony Roi, a message was placed on his website’s message board to write reviews on him.  We encourage this, thus eighteen reviews were sent in.

The Duttons made an announcement on the intermission of their show and the next day we received six reviews.

The Haygoods posted a message on their message board and within 24 hours fourteen reviews were sent in.  Admittedly, some of the submissions were comments, not really informative reviews.  However, they did follow the submission guidelines and therefore were posted.

We have BransonCritic.org posters that shows can put up for show-goers to see and respond too.

Why would shows encourage people to write reviews on them?

-Two reasons.

  • One is that each review has information that search engines will pick up.  What does this mean?  Each search engine has a robot that comes by and indexes a website’s pages.  The more information on a particular subject, the more valuable it is in the keywords executed by the user.  Example:  Are Haygoods a good show?  Search Engine shows results of people’s reviews for the Haygoods.  This is “major” free publicity.
  • Second reason is that the editors at Branson Critic will vote on shows supported by the people’s reviews for the BC Awards in December.  While we are interested in posting Editor’s Reviews of any show, our vote on the shows, is influenced by people’s reviews.

Can one person write several reviews on the same show?  Stacking the deck so to speak.

-Probably, if they went to different computers in different homes.  However, we log IP addresses and will not post more than two reviews on the same show from the same IP address.

Why two reviews from the same IP address on the same show?

The reviews may be from a husband or wife, or mother and daughter, etc.  That is allowable.  However, if there are seven family members in a home, we will only post two reviews from that IP address on any particular show.  The exception to this is that certain shows, like Legends, change throughout the year.  That is where we will allow more than two reviews on the same show, if the content reflects a review on those differences.

Can you review more than one show?

-Absolutely.  You may review as many shows as you like.

Why do you sometimes refrain from posting all-negative reviews?

-A critical review could get posted if it is well-written, not mean-spirited and has constructive criticism.

Can I send pictures by e-mail to be placed in the review?

-Yes.  We will place one picture in your review, so pick the best one.

How do you decide the order of reviews on the show's reviews page?

-The most recent reviews will be posted at the top; however, well-written reviews take precedence over "comments".
