Dixie Stampede:  More Fun Than A Family Can Stand - Part 1

There are a lot of great shows in Branson. There are also a lot of great places to eat in Branson. But there are none that combine the two the way that Dixie Stampede does. My wife and I go to Branson three or four times every year, and this is the only show that we see at least once every year.

You are in for about three of the most fun hours of your life. The pre-pre-show starts as soon as you get there. You have the opportunity to walk around the outside of the beautiful southern style mansion and look at the horses that you will soon see in the arena. I am a “small” city boy, but seeing the different breeds of horses brings out the country bumpkin in me.  I am not a horse expert, but I recognize a beautiful one when I see it.

There are 32 horses used in the show and they range from sturdy working Quarter Horses, elegant Paints & Appaloosas to magnificent Clydesdales and Belgians that pull heavy Conestoga wagons from our western past.

Once inside the mansion, you are shown into the saloon where drinks (non-alcoholic) are served in a boot. Yes, I said a boot. Then you get to take it home as a souvenir. Once you find a seat, and I suggest the top floor balcony, the pres-how begins. The 2005 show features a comedy variety show that includes everything for juggling to acrobatics.  It will have you cringing in amazement on moment and rolling with laughter the next minute. The pre-show is FREE and it starts about thirty minutes before show time.

You will be amazed at how there is no wasted time at the Dixie Stampede.  Every minute seems choreographed.  Literally, just a couple minutes before the show starts, the doors will open and ushers will herd you into the huge 35,000 square foot arena and dinner area. There is honestly not a bad seat in the arena, so don’t worry about where your seat is located.  However, you should be aware be aware of the North vs. South rivalry that plays an important part of the show.  When you order your tickets, southern bells and gentleman should request a seat to the side of the south, while dirty Yankees should request to be on the side of northern aggression.

From sets that are constantly descending from the ceiling, each one more impressive then the last, to the glitter and sparkle of costumes, made with meticulous attention to detail—you will find that you can’t take your eyes off the arena show. There were moments when my heartstrings were pulled as well as times I was rolling with laughter, but there were also serious moments when I was reminded about why I am so fortunate to be an American.  After seeing the show several times, I think I have finally figured out the bit of magic. But don’t worry, you will be stumped the first half dozen times you see the show as well.

From Buffalo to Ostriches and dare devil horseback riding to competitions that once again pit the North against the South, this show is filled with fun that invites the audience to interact with the stars. You truly are part of the show and you help decide the ending. The kids will love it.  Grandma and grandpa will love it. And so will you.
