After being a fan of the Welk Show for the entire time they were in Branson, maybe it was time for the show to close. It was tired and exhausted. It's my impression that the orchestra was reduced in size each year. In its final year most orchestra members were playing more than one
instrument (not at one time). It's a poor way to cut overhead in a show that is known for its outstanding music.

The show was never lacking for talent. It had so much talent it was incredible. The orchestra, the
singers, dancers, and of course the wonderful Lennon Sisters and the rotating cast members were all outstanding. What was lacking was the
creative staff. A Century of American Music was one of the first musicals they performed. It was performed three years in a row! Exactly the same.
Same music, same songs, same jokes, same costumes, etc. I once wrote Mr. Larry Welk about this and reminded him that when his father, Lawrence Welk, was producing his show on TV they had a different show every WEEK! Different songs, different costumes, different backdrops, etc.

Why couldn't' they take advantage of the incredible talent on stage? This last year (2004) I saw the Welk Show, I think four times, and it was just a
compilation of past shows. So back to my original statement, I guess it was just exhausted and time to retire. Too bad.
