For those who opened this expecting to read that we went to a really bad, hicky, corny, hillbilly country show, and it stunk, you will be disappointed.

It was the Brett Daniels Magic and Beyond Show. It is not a local show, but one from Vegas, and Atlantic City.

By all advance signs it should have been great. He had been named "Magician of the Year" in Las Vegas. It is a Grand Palace show. It is promoted by the same company that does Cirque. It included a drummer from Atlantic City who has been named best drummer ever (somewhere).

But, it was the worst paid entertainment event I have ever attended. My Great Aunt (who has a slight problem from a little stroke), kept saying, quite audibly, "I'm glad we didn't pay to get in here." Actually, comments like that from audience made it worth being there!

It is the second year for this show in Branson so there is no excuse for equipment not working, but they skipped at least half of the illusions, just for that reason. They actually said stuff like, "Well, that equipment isn't working tonight, so we'll just go on." Then Brett would look toward the production box and say something like, "Ed, can you find my voice-over and the music for . . ."

At one point things were so discombobulated that Brett said, "What the heck. . . listen to my drummer for awhile." The drummer, from Atlantic City, doing his first show in Branson, then put on what he thought Hicks from the Sticks would appreciate. He was way under the crowd!!!!!

Even the death-dying Water Torture Chamber did not seem credible. At that point, toward the end of the show, if Brett had drowned in front of us, I doubt that many would have believed it.

This is the guy that makes a Navy fighter jet appear onstage and the clincher was when he did that, removed the curtain to show the jet, it was still rolling in from backstage and had one of the backdrop curtains hanging on the front wing!!! ...lol.

Still, you have to wonder where all those people kept disappearing to, where the motorcycle disappeared to, and how it and Brett instantly got to the lobby and rode the Harley down the aisle of the theater.

Had everything worked, it would have likely only been extremely boring.

Brett's talent as an illusionist is amazing! He is quite possibly the best magician I have seen. I saw awesome feats of magic I've never seen live before. How does he do it? I don't know and can't even begin to guess. You just have to forget trying to analyze "how" and just enjoy. The show is high energy with a hot soundtrack that keeps the pace pumped up. Brett definitely is great at his genre, but not as personable as an entertainer as some of the others I have seen. He should smile more and it wouldn't hurt if he dressed up a bit. Still, the kids in the audience loved it, my 30-year-old son really liked the beautiful dancers/assistants and I would recommend the show for the entire family. The auditorium has an excellent sound system, nice cushy seats with cup holders and wide spaces between the rows so people can easily walk by you.
