Titanic in Branson, MO
My family visited the Titanic in
Branson, MO on Monday March 13. It was quite nice.
You enter through the iceberg and are given a boarding pass
containing a passengers name and a brief bit of history about the
person. There is a really nice "ice" wall that you can touch
simulating the feel of an iceberg and many posters and pictures on
the walls. Inside the next room is a huge model of the ship behind
glass and beautiful etched glass panels with pictures and quotes
from some of the passengers. It is very beautiful but sad at the
same time.
As you continue through the lower area you get to see many artifacts
and photographs of the ship. Some display cases are built to
resemble cabin doors and are really nice. A few have already had the
adhesive come loose and parts of the displays have fallen out of
place but I suppose this is to be expected, they are still figuring
out how to set things up. A few cases didn't have their artifacts in
them yet as well.
You
will come around to the grand staircase and it is BEAUTIFUL. There
are some "characters" there and they'll interact with you and take a
picture of your family if you'd like. They are sooooo nice and
helpful. You get to actually walk up the grand staircase with the
huge dome overhead.
After you get upstairs you can view
a first class cabin and watch a short movie about the Titanic.
They also have an area where they can simulate the pressure exerted
by the ocean if you were to travel to the wreckage. For a small fee
they place a Styrofoam cup that you have decorated into a
pressurized chamber and you can watch it shrink to the size of a
thimble. It makes a nice souvenir.
There is an interactive area where you can try your hand at morose
code. My kids really enjoyed it. There is a replica life boat that
you can sit in and listen to some thoughts from the passengers. From
this interactive room you make your way into the memorial room. In
this room you can discover if the passenger on your boarding pass
survived or perished. It is a very emotional room. It was so very
sad to see the names of so many people etched into the glass.
After the memorial room you go back down the grand staircase and
enter a dining room and exit through to the gift shop. We spent
about $60 for a family of four and it took us around 2 hours to go
through the entire ship and shop in the gift shop. My kids really
enjoyed the
Titanic in
Branson and we'll definitely consider visiting again once
the exterior is all completed.
